Sept. 30 Weekend Stars
Here are some standout individual performances at both the high school and college level from over the weekend.

Noah Callery, Doherty: For the second week in a row, this junior quarterback led the Highlanders to a game-winning touchdown drive in the final seconds. On Saturday against Shrewsbury, Callery completed 21-of-31 passes for 291 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for 139 yards and three scores on 14 carries. With the Highlanders trailing and the ball at their 9-yard line and just 1:14 to play, Callery led the team on a touchdown drive that concluded with a 14-yard pass to Jaeden Baxter with 14 seconds left.
Jayden Clerveaux, Everett: This sophomore is quickly becoming one of the best running backs in the state. In his team's 36-21 win over Brockton, he rushed for nearly 200 yards and two touchdowns.
Michael Curtis, UMass: The third-string quarterback made a strong case for a full-time starting role moving forward, as he completed 17-of-31 passes for 173 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in his team's 31-17 win over Akron, the Minutemen's first of the season. He also rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries.
AJ Dillon, Boston College: The junior posted his third straight 150-yard rushing performance with 23 carries for 159 yards in the Eagles' 27-24 loss to Wake Forest.
Stephen Gacioch, UMass-Dartmouth: In his team's 21-14 win over Plymouth State, the junior quarterback completed 32-of-45 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 104 yards and a touchdown on 22 carries.
Nolan Houlihan, Billerica: The senior quarterback completed 14-of-18 passes for 302 yards and three touchdowns in the Indians' 31-5 rout of Bishop Feehan.
Jared Kapurch, St. Peter Marian: In his team's 54-7 win over Worcester North, Kapurch carried the ball 15 times for 180 yards and five touchdowns.
Isaiah Laguerre, Brockton: This senior had an explosive day for the Boxers in their 36-21 loss to Everett. He rushed for touchdowns 16 and 80 yards and returned a kickoff 92 yards for another score.
John Lee, Lynnfield: The senior wide receiver/defensive back had 175 all-purpose yards with a 65-yard punt return for a touchdown.
Drew Mahoney, Bentley: In the Falcons' 31-14 win over New Haven, this wide receiver caught 11 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown.
Brady Martin, Lawrence Academy: The UMass commit stood out on both sides of the ball in the Spartans' 13-12 win over Middlesex School. On offense, he completed 16-of-21 passes for 203 yards. At safety, he made five tackles and the game-clinching interception with under two minutes left.
Ethan Medeiros, New Bedford: In a program-defining win over Bridgewater-Raynham, this senior quarterback led the Whalers back from a 28-7 deficit with 145 rushing yards and three touchdowns in the second half of his team's 35-28 victory.
Derek Ng, Holy Cross: The sophomore kicker booted a 48-yard field goal — a career-best and second-longest in school history — in the only scoring for the Crusaders in their 41-3 loss to Syracuse.
Will Prouty, Duxbury: In the Dragons' 41-20 win over Hingham, this senior completed 10-of-15 passes for 285 yards, rushed for 129 yards on 21 carries, accounted for five touchdowns, and made an interception.
Lucas Ragusa, Canton: The senior linebacker made nine tackles — four for loss — and forced a fumble in the Bulldogs' 10-0 win over Stoughton.
Joe Rivers, Bishop Fenwick: This Holy Cross commit compiled 265 yards of total offense — 136 receiving and 129 rushing — and three touchdowns on 10 touches in the Crusaders' 44-20 win over Arlington Catholic.
Anthony Romano, Methuen: The junior had a massive day on both sides of the ball in Saturday's 19-14 win over Lowell. He made a strip-sack for a touchdown, then caught a 22-yard pass to convert a fourth-and-long on the Rangers' game-winning drive. He also had a big, 17-yard run, and finished with seven solo tackles.
Ryan Russell, West Springfield: The junior quarterback threw for 328 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for two more in a huge, 41-21 win over Chicopee Comp.
Jake Smith, Harvard: In his team's 42-7 win over Brown, Smith completed 22-of-29 passes for 299 yards, four touchdowns and an interception.
Marquis Spence, Merrimack: In his team's 10-3 loss to Lehigh, Spence was uncoverable, as he caught 16 passes for 175 yards.
Ryon Thomas, Old Rochester: In the Bulldogs' 42-7 win over Greater New Bedford, this quarterback rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns on nine carries. He completed all four pass attempts for 78 yards and a touchdown. He also made 4-of-5 extra points and ran in a two-point conversion.
