Sept. 9 Weekend Stars

Here are some standout individual performances at both the high school and college level from over the weekend.

Bilal Ally, UMass: In an otherwise forgettable 45-20 loss by the Minutemen to Southern Illinois, this junior running back rushed for 87 yards on 16 carries.

Alex Berrouet, Acton-Boxboro: This junior picked up from where he left off last season, scoring touchdowns on runs of 55 and 15 yards, along with a 40-yard pick-six.

Andrew Brazicki, Bentley: The junior rushed for 131 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries for the Falcons in a 14-7 loss to West Chester Saturday.

"Chris Crew" of Stoughton: Juniors Christian Ais, Christopher Ais, and Christian Georges all stood out for the Black Knights in a 35-16 win over Framingham. Christian Ais rushed for 80 yards on nine carries. His brother rushed for 108 yards on 20 carries and added an 8-yard touchdown reception. Georges had four carries for 99 yards and two touchdowns. 

CJ Cerella, Milford: The hard-hitting linebacker played well in defeat for the Scarlet Hawks in their 34-27 loss to Franklin, with nine tackles, five solo, five for loss, and five quarterback hits/pressures.

Alec Coleman, Western New England: The senior quarterback from Arlington completed 28-of-36 passes for 305 yards and a touchdown in the Golden Bears' 33-17 win over rival Springfield College. The victory gave the Pynchon  SAW trophy back to WNEC after the Pride won last year's meeting.

Kyle Connolly, Falmouth: The option quarterback rushed for 138 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries in the Clippers' 35-14 win over Dartmouth. The senior also completed 5-of-9 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown. On defense, he had seven tackles from his free safety position.

Mike DeBolt, Mansfield: The senior made an impact in all three phases of the game in the Hornets' 31-10 win over BC High. He rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on seven carries, caught a 48-yard touchdown pass, and made seven tackles on defense. DeBolt also kicked a 24-yard field goal, four PATs, and was 4-of-6 for touchbacks on kickoffs.

Liam Doran and Joe Lang, Holy Cross: These two provided the game-winning defensive touchdown for the Crusaders in a 13-10 win over the University of New Hampshire Saturday. Doran, a Framingham native who went to St. John's of Shrewsbury, popped the ball loose from UNH back Carlos Washington at the goal line, and Lang fell on it give the Crusaders the lead with just over a minute left.

Devaun Ford, Framingham State: A lot was expected of the freshman running back out of Mashpee, and he delivered despite his team losing, 55-27, to Endicott. Ford carried the ball nine times for 69 yards and touchdowns of 5 and 36 yards, the second of which helped cut the Endicott lead to a point before the Gulls reeled off 27 unanswered.

Brian Frieh, Barnstable: The senior running back rushed for 116 yards and played a great game on defense in the Red Raiders' 20-14 win over Xaverian.

Thomas Gasbarro, Franklin: The senior quarterback completed 23-of-27 passes for 303 yards and three touchdowns in the Panthers' 34-27 win over Milford.

Joe Kalosky, Endicott: In the Gulls' 55-27 statement win over Framingham State to open the season Saturday, Kalosky completed 21-of-28 passes for 374 yards and five touchdowns.

Andrew Jamiel, Stonehill: The former Dennis-Yarmouth standout and older brother of current Dolphins receiver Geoffrey, Jamiel caught nine passes for 129 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-14 win over Bloomsburg.

Will Lederman, Natick: The junior quarterback opened his season in style with two rushing touchdowns and another through the air in his team's 42-0 rout of Needham.

Rodrigo Lima, Brockton: This junior linebacker was all over the field in the Boxers' 27-14 win over Duxbury Friday night. He made 14 tackles, three for loss, and two interceptions.

Joey Loretti, Beverly : The junior running back rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns on seven carries in the Panthers' 21-7 win over Winthrop.

Michael Mercuri, Merrimack: The Lowell native and Central Catholic alum made 13 tackles and had a 34-yard pick-six in his team's 40-37 loss to Central Connecticut Saturday night.

Nygel Palmer, New Bedford: The senior running back, in his first varsity action since his freshman year, had 180 yds on 18 carries with three touchdowns in the Whalers' 24-13 win over Taunton.

Will Sheskey, Scituate: The Sailors blanked Marshfield, 24-0, Friday night, and this senior was a big reason why. He carried the ball 25 times for 100 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 11 tackles on defense.

Ben Skinner, West Bridgewater: In his team's 21-0 shutout of St. John Paul II, Skinner caught a scoring pass, and made two interceptions, including a pick-six.

William Watson III, Springfield Central: In his first-ever high school game, the freshman quarterback completed 16-of-27 passes for 313 yards and a touchdown in the Golden Eagles' 40-12 win over Everett.

Zay Flowers, Boston College: The true freshman wide receiver again showed off his explosiveness in a 45-13 win over Richmond Saturday. He carried the ball three times for 92 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown to open the scoring.
